What do cookies and cleaning have in common?

I am very passionate about sharing with others how to have a healthier home, which translates to a healthier you and a healthier earth. And I only use Shaklee's environmentally safe products in my home because it's a company you can trust. period. and the products work. period.  But it's good to know that there are some other basics that you have around to use that are safe. Basically speaking, sodium bicarbonate, commonly in your cupboards as BAKING SODA, is a leavening agent used in baking.  I have also used it in recipes where an acidic ingredient, such as buttermilk or lemon juice, will be used to generate the chemical reaction that releases bubbles of carbon dioxide. According to my resource ( Home & Lifestyles Magazine, Peoria) this reaction occurs right after the mixing of ingredients and baking must follow immediately.

So, because it is all-natural and can be ingested, it can be used safely and without concern for toxic interactions.  And since it helps regulate the PH balance, this neutralizing function helps limit acid smells in the refrigerator.

-Here is a look at some of the other way to put baking soda to use. (taken from Home & Lifestyles Magazine, Peoria)

*  MOUTHWASH: Mix a glass of water with one teaspoon of baking soda.  Swish and spit out the solution, then rinse.  Mouth odors will be neutralized.
* DEODORANT:  pat baking soda under the arms for a natural body odor deterrent.
* ANTACID:  use baking soda as an antacid or to combat sour stomach.  The box usually will give directions for making a solution to drink to ease stomach discomfort.
* ITCH REMEDY: Shake baking soda onto the hand and pat it on damp skin after a shower.
* DEODORIZE:  Sprinkle baking soda on carpets before vacuuming. Keep a box in the fridge or a close to absorb foul odors ( Ruth added:  football lockers,  gym bags...)
* WATER TREATMENT:  Use baking soda to neutralize water PH.
* HAIR IMPROVEMENTS:  Mix a small amount of baking soda with your store bought shampoo.  The baking soda will help remove the residue that styling products leave behind. ( When you use the Shaklee products, they are already ph balanced)
* SOFT SCRUB:  Sprinkle baking soda on a clean, damp sponge. Use it to scour tiles, sinks, tubs, and counters.  Rinse and wipe dry.
* MICROWAVE CLEANER:  Baking soda on a sponge can also clean the inside of the microwave without leaving a harsh smell behind.
* STAINLESS STEAL CLEANER:  make a paste of baking soda and water to remove rust stains from a stainless steel sink. ( Ruth:  elbow grease required too)
* COFFEE POT CLEANER:  Remove litter tastes and stains from coffee pots or tea pots with a solution of 1/4 cup baking soda to 1 quart warm water.
* GENTLE BABY CLOTHES WASH:  Soak baby times in water and 1/2 cup baking soda for a gentle cleanser.
* GREASE FIGHTER:  Sprinkle baking soda on light oil and grease spills in teh garage or in the driveway.  Scrub with a wet brush.
* LITTER BOX:  sprinkle baking soda in kitty litter to neutralize pet odors.
* SEPTIC CARE:  Regular use of baking soda in drains is a natural way to realize proper PH in septic tanks.

I'm sure there are a lot of other uses, just like there are 100's of uses for my Shaklee Basic H2. ( Check out the next blog and learn more about Shaklee's GET CLEAN line. Offer for a free sample will be included)

It's a WIN WIN for everyone when we make the switch to safe cleaners.
